Is crochet hard? What materials do I need? How can I start? This and many other questions can go through your head once your deciding to start your Crochet Journey, or any other hobby in general.
As you can see, is anything but straight and even the stitches were wrong. I felt frustrated and sad at the same time, because I paid for an online course on Domestika.
Ok, I must admit it isn't the best one, and I needed to work on the preasure of my yarn, but compared to the first one... It is definitely better, right?
I felt a million times more confortable not having to maintain a straight project and focused more on my new creation, and even ended up gifting my sister my first ever crochet socks!
When you're starting your Crochet Journey, you need to take into account that patience and resilience are going to be your best friend, because your first projects might not me the best, or even be easy to craft, here is an example of how mine went.
As you can see, is anything but straight and even the stitches were wrong. I felt frustrated and sad at the same time, because I paid for an online course on Domestika.
The teacher told us to keep trying, to buy some yarn and try to make it straight, try to understand how the anatomy of every stitch works (yes, it exists). So I was a woman on a mission.
I changed the quality of my yarn to a mix of cotton and synthetic that was easier to handle, and started trying to make it better, and here is how that went.
Ok, I must admit it isn't the best one, and I needed to work on the preasure of my yarn, but compared to the first one... It is definitely better, right?
So I kept trying, and what I considered failing at the time, now is what helped me understand better what yarn to use, what preasure to apply and when, the stitch anatomy... And that going for straight projects might not be my thing.
So after almost 300gr of yarn were gone, I switched to doing socks, and this time with a YouTube tutorial, and here is how it went.
I felt a million times more confortable not having to maintain a straight project and focused more on my new creation, and even ended up gifting my sister my first ever crochet socks!
In conclusion, when you start your Crochet Journey, don't rush, everything is trial and error, and the best thing is that you can always pull on your yarn and start a project from zero (I've done that a lot).
Whether you begin with a paid course, virtual or an academy, or just look for beginner level videos on YouTube, or start with clothes or amigurumi, don't forget to take your time... You can always take a break and come back later, remember that the goal is enjoying the trip, even if you don't master it from the start.
And welcome to your Crochet Journey 💖.
